AB001. Prostate cancer 2017 update
نویسنده
چکیده
Prostate cancer is a prevalent and controversial public health issue in the United States and Europe. Although the disease is common long-term prostate cancer specific morbidity and mortality tends to be low and treatments carry substantial potential for adverse effects and high costs. The prevalence of prostate cancer in China is markedly lower than in the US but demographic shifts may lead to substantial increases in prostate cancer among Chinese men. In this update, we will compare and contrast prostate cancer in Chinese versus American men. This will be followed by an update on pivotal trials reported out in 2017, the evolving role of MRI, updated guidelines for prostate cancer in 2017, evidence to support the use of active surveillance in appropriated selected patients, and lastly a brief primer on novel biomarkers in the prostate cancer space. Attendees should leave with a better understanding of the major issues and developments in the prostate cancer space.

Can we alter the grim prognosis of advanced prostate cancer by using novel agents, by delivering hormonal therapy earlier in the course of the disease, or by using innovative means such as intermittent therapy? Most likely we will, but not imminently. Meanwhile we need to ask, what...

متن کاملProstate cancer proteomics: Current trends and future perspectives for biomarker discovery
The clinical and fundamental research in prostate cancer - the most common urological cancer in men - is currently entering the proteomic and genomic era. The focus has switched from one single marker (PSA) to panels of biomarkers (including proteins involved in ribosomal function and heat shock proteins). Novel genetic markers (such as Transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2)-ERG fusion gene ...
متن کاملUpdate on Screening for Urological Malignancies
Urological malignancies are a major source of morbidity and mortality in men over 40. Screening for those malignancies has a potential benefit of reducing both. However, even after more than two decades of screening for prostate cancer, the implications of most resulting information are still a matter of debate. Controversy extends over several aspects of prostate cancer screening programs, inc...
